Doctor Who figures

Doctor Who turns 50 this year & the new series had begun staring the Doctor, Doctor Matt Smith.
Character options have brought out a brand new series of figures, we received Clara Oswald, Doctor Matt Smith's companion. She comes with a stand & her red bag. She stands at 3.5 inches high and has the great detailing that all the other Doctor Who figures have, the rrp is £6.99 each which makes it affordable to collect all 6 figures. Big T is a huge Doctor Who fan and loves the new figures. We also received the Dalek Invasion Time zone playset, park of this set is cardboard so if your child is one that tends to pull things apart this set could be easily damaged. It is however a great addition to the Doctor Who range and other playsets easily click together to make a universe of Doctor Who.

We got the new electronic 4th Doctor's sonic screwdriver with sound effects, Big T loved activation the sound and pretending he was the Doctor, saving the world from all the baddies.

All items are suitable for ages 5+ & would make any Doctor Who fan happy. Big T got out all his collection and played for hours so I would recommend them to family & friends.

I received all the products for the purpose of the review, all opinions are of my own.

Am I really a home improvement hero?

Money Supermarket set me the challenge to be a home improvement hero & change a room using just £50. Can a room really be changed by spending just £50? The answer is yes, easy.
My sons room was plain blue walls, when we moved here we just lined his walls and painted them because he has a habit of picking the wallpaper so we didn't want to spend too much to have to redo it a few months later, thankfully he managed a year and half without destroying his room so we were going to decorate anyway, Money Supermarket just gave me the push I needed. All that was now needed was inspiration, I found that inspiration after I picked up some bargain wallpaper in the sale.

I picked up 4 rolls of striped wallpaper from Wilkinsons in the sale, all 4 rolls cost just £12, normally the price of just 1 roll of most wallpaper so I was rather pleased with my find. The wallpaper has blue, red, grey & black stripes on a white background so I instantly thought of Captain America, possibly because the boys have had me watching the Avengers quite a lot lately. So there it was, my theme, Captain America, my search for bedroom accessories began. I managed to find curtains for £11 and then a duvet set from Linen Store for £16  which left me with just £11. Not much more could be bought that matched my theme and budget so I had to make what ever else was needed.
I took all of the draw knobs off his draws & painted them white with paint I already had(everyone must have left over gloss), I then got a red and blue marker for 50p and set about drawing the shield onto the door knobs. The results were good, my boys both recognized them to be Captain America's shield so I knew they looked okay.
Next I decided he needed some sort of larger shield so a rummage through my material bag I found I had white material but no red or blue so I bought a fat quarter of red & blue material for £3 each, a white zip for £1.39 & a square cushion for £2.99.
All I had to do was pull out the trusty sewing machine and make a round cushion cover for a square cushion, I know you are wondering why I bought a square cushion, well the answer is simple, they are way cheaper than buying a round one & with a little stuffing manipulation it turns into a round one! Lots of huffing and puffing & stabbing myself with pins I eventually made a round Captain America shield cushion that I am rather proud of.

So the challenge was to change a room for £50 & I think I did it, just about.

Wallpaper £12.00

Curtains £11.00
Duvet cover £16

Pens 50p

Material £6
Zip £1.39

Square cushion £2.99
Total £49.88
I am a home improvement hero! You can check out the full details of the challenge on Money Supermarkets competition page
I love to decorate & often use my skills to make a room unique, if you have drawing skills you can too & again do it for under £50, check out my Peter Pan wall mural  that I did a few months back. All that is needed is a skilled drawer, tester pots & lots of them, most can be bought for £1 each and I managed to buy lots using 3for2 deals and a theme, you can transform white walls into something brilliant.

Memory Monday 29/2013

My memory for this week is of my fabulous children, each one of them are so different, no two are alike. I know this picture looks like they are all sweet, what you don't know is that little lady was sat shouting get off Tristan or tit-an as she calls him.
The day at the beach was great, the sea was warm & the sun was scorching, Porthmadog was  apparently the hottest in the UK that day so I am happy that I was the paranoid mother & made sure the kids were covered and was not in the sun too long. All day I was like a parrot, more cream, get in the shade, more cream, get in the shade. It all paid off though because not a one of them as any sunburn, I can't say the same for my husband though!
We had a great day and hope that the weather grants us with more beach day weather.

Race for life, my princess and I

On Sunday we packed up the minibus & headed for Heaton Park in Manchester. The reason for us travelling almost 70 miles was so I could take part in the Race for Life. I was asked by Scottish Power if I would take part in their High 5 Challenge & in return they would sponsor me £200, I was not about to turn down the chance to receive £200 for Cancer Research UK so I of course agreed.

To take part in the Scottish Power High 5 Challenge I was sent a High 5 glove to bling up ready for all the high 5's I would be doing on the day & I sure did many of them, almost every steward & a lovely lady who had a high foam glove got a high 5 from me. My whole family also took part in the High 5 Challenge, even my little lady who also joined me on my race for life walk.

Rhian loved being pushed around the 5k course and towards the end she got out of her pushchair and walked the last part.
The atmosphere was brilliant, everyone had come together for the same reason, to raise as much money as possible for Cancer Research UK

I am very proud of us for getting round & raising much need money for Cancer Research UK, next year I might even attempt to run the 5k & again I hope can raise as much possible for such a worthy cause.
If you would like to donate, please visit my just giving page  to sponsor me or text MTOF81 followed by the amount you wish to donate to 70070

My memory for this week is of Rhian, on Sunday we took part in the Race for Life. She walked the last part all by herself, since crossing the finish line she has proudly worn her(our) medal.

CRISP 2013 Ultima Stunt Scooter

A while back skates sent me a scooter for review, now this is not just any old scooter it is a CRISP scooter, the CRISP 2013 ultima stunt scooter, the scooter that all the kids seem to want as my husband found out. We'd had the scooter for around a week when my husband took our son to the local shops on it, all was normal till he approached a bunch of young lads, they went nuts saying "its a CRISP" & "oh my god that is the best scooter ever" My husband was a little shocked at all the attention one shiny purple and black scooter was getting, he said you would think I had just pulled up outside a pub in a Ferrari.
My girls drooled over it and argued who got to go on it first. They both have done a few none dangerous stunts on it, I even had a little go and did a few hops off the ground. One thing I will say it is much more sturdier than any other scooter we have had, but then it is the ultima CRISP! We have the purple & black colour CRISP which I think is suitable for both a boy & girl, it glides across most surfaces with ease & looks great whilst doing so. We took it on a bmx track and it whizzed around the corners with ease, I half expected at least one of my children to fall off they were going that fast but they never!

The new CRISP 2013 ultima stunt scooter has lots have great features that makes it the scooter that the kids seem to crave, it has:

New deck plate design boxed sides and flat bottom, 3 degree concave 4.2 inches x 20 inches
Double D down tube for increased weld length and strength
Semi-Integrated sealed Neco headset
New fork design
Supersonic oversized 34.9mm - Y Bars 21 x 21
New Alloy Fork with HIC compression
110mm contour wheels
SST Flex fender

I am guilty of taking a turn(it would be rude not to) I found it was smooth to ride & I had great fun attempting some stunts, I think all the cool kids wondered what I was doing but I looked cool(I think).

I would highly recommend this stunt scooter to family and friends & would happily purchase one myself, priced at £149.99 I would say it is worth every penny as you will be purchasing a stunt scooter that is durable & very well made, the quality is excellent.

Air purifier & Ioniser review

Appliances Direct offered me the chance to review one of their air purifiers a while back, I jumped at the chance as my son suffers badly with asthma and allergies, including hay fever. In the past when the weather has been nice we have had to keep the windows closed to keep out any pollen that is floating around in the air. This means that the room ends up extremely hot & stuffy. Often he would be unsettled which made him not have enough sleep, he would then be grump and tired for school.
We have been using the Convair Eco Air purifier & Ioniser which comes with new anti-bacteria technology for over 1 month & have noticed a real difference it has made to my sons suffering. In the past when his hay fever or dust allergies have flared up he would have itchy red eyes that looked puffy but since using the air purifier he has not suffered once. The past week we have fully put it to the test by having the windows in his bedroom open & I am delighted to say he has had no allergy flare up, not even one little wheeze.

It is not only for those who suffer with allergies, it filters out gases & fumes, it destroys micro-organisms, bacteria & fungal spores.

I expected it to be quite noisy but is does only produce a low humming sound. It is small & lightweight so is easily portable from room to room & it looks stylish too. The only downside is it gets finger prints on it easily so I am often giving it a polish.
The dimensions are 33cm(h) x 25cm(w) x 10.5cm(d) & it can be bought for just £49.99.
I would recommend this Air Purifier & Ioniser to family & friends because we have seen a huge improvement in the health of my son since using it, I also like knowing that any nasty bacteria that is floating about is destroyed in my sons room.

Chad Valley wooden Playhouse

cheap wooden playhouse I have been searching for quite some time for a wooden playhouse for the children but could never find one in our price range that would be suitable. Argos came to our rescue with this gorgeous Chad Valley Wooden Playhouse. Big T can't play out like other children his age so the garden is the only place he can play without us having to take him, slowly but surely we are getting the garden sorted so it can be his safe haven, a place he can play safely. The Chad Valley wooden playhouse arrived quickly, we had to store it whilst we got the ground prepared. We decided to put it in a position that we could clearly see it from our sitting room window.
Putting together the Chad Valley PlayhousePutting it together was straight forward, the instructions were easy to follow. The only downside was the screws could have been better quality as we managed to round off a few of the screw heads however they did do the job. Whilst putting it together I noticed a small crack in one of the pieces of wood and a tiny crack in the perspex window. Argos offered an exchange right away but as the faults were not that bad and easy fixable I decided against receiving a replacement. As a way of goodwill they sent me a Plum sandpit bench which my children love. We had really strong winds a few weeks back with a lot of damage in our area, mainly strong trees falling. I was certain that damage would be done to the playhouse as we live quite high up so everything gets battered by the winds. The morning after the worst night wind I have experienced I went out to check on the animals and survey the damage. I was amazed to find the playhouse stood strong, other bits and pieces had been thrown around the garden but the playhouse managed to withstand the strong winds.
Argos wooden playhouseThe Chad Valley wooden playhouse is made using FSC wood so the wood uses has come from a sustainable source. The size is perfect for children, mine love having their very own house at the end of the garden to play in, sometimes they let me in to play, sometimes I am shut out and told I am too big to play in their house!. The size is H158, W140, D140cm now I tried to find the internal size before it arrived and I struggled to find the correct information I was not sure which was the correct size so I grabbed  my tape measure and took some of my own measurements, the internal size is approximately  W114cm x D88.5cm, the door opening size is H96cm x W37cm approximately. You will need to prepare the ground on which your playhouse will sit & I recommend a solid base. The minimum solid base size you will need is W122 x D132cm, with the roof on the size is larger due to the overhand of the roof so it then becomes the size which is advertised.

I would highly recommend this Chad Valley wooden playhouse and it can be bought for £139.99 from Argos at the minute as they have reduced the price from £199.99
If a playhouse is not what you need Argos stock a massive range of outdoor toys from trikes and trampolines that kids will enjoy most of which we have bought over the years and no doubt we will purchase more from Argos over the coming years.

I was sent the Chad Valley Wooden Playhouse for the purpose of the review, all opinions are of my own
