John Crane Pintoy Pull along Puppy review

For #woodentoywednesday this week I am going to tell you all about John Crane's Pintoy Pull along Puppy. John Crane sent it me last week for review and we have been playing with it since.
It is a cute wooden colourful puppy. His wheels are green & come with a rubber rim so they can grip the floor easily, the rear wheels are positioned so that when he is pulled along it makes the spring loaded parts move, his tail & head are spring loaded which means when you pull him along using his lovely red lead his tail wags & his head bobs along in delight!. His red roped lead is attached to his bright blue wooden collar that can pivot around his neck in any direction.

He is painted with orange patches & has orange detailing, he has soft black felt ears & a cute red nose.
He is suitable for children ages 18months+ & he measures in at W9xL21xH14.5cm.
The Pintoy pull along puppy is a durable wooden toy that has no sharp edges at all, he would make a perfect Christmas present for a small child. Rhian loves to pull her puppy along as does Tristan, Rhian has named him wow wow, I personally would call him bob because his head bobs along.

mic o mic toy review

mic o mic are a new construction toy range & DKL Toys sent us the mic o mic sports car & the small racing car to review. Both are suitable for ages 5+, they both are brightly coloured & are made from pre-formed plastic components. Both the boys ages 10 & 4 enjoyed building the cars up. It was a perfect activity for us all to do together during the long summer holidays.

The instructions are clear enough to follow they are displayed in pictures rather than words so even if your child can not read yet they will still be able to follow them. I would recommend that an adult helps a smaller child to push in the small plastic pins as this requires a little bit of pressure.

In the box you can construct a handy tool that helps you press in the plastic pins ore helps to remove them. We found that if the clips didn't quite fit you could stretch them slightly using the handy tool.

Both the boys really enjoyed this activity, it also has many opportunities to develop hand eye coordination skills & also to learn colours. They spent some time after we built them vrooming them around their bedrooms racing each other. They are really sturdy toys that despite rough play have stayed intact. They can be rebuilt as often as your child wishes too.
They are reasonably priced & also have more vehicles in the mic o mic range.

Clarks school shoes review

Every parent knows how expensive & time consuming it can be to get the children ready for a new school year & with 4 to buy for it can sometimes be daunting. I jumped at the chance to review Clarks back to school range when we were asked. We were given a voucher & our appointment was made!. When we arrived at Clarks in the centre of Wrexham it was rather busy. Mums, dads & children filled the store, some clutching tickets with numbers on & some already seated with their feet being measured or a pile of boxes filled with lovely black shoes waiting to be tried on sat next to them. We thankfully having an appointment was taken to the back of the store and seated straight away, the girls started to eye up the shelving of shoes. The assistant 1st measured my eldest daughters feet & to our surprise we found she had grown 2 sizes since she was last fitted a few months ago, she also has 1 foot 1/2 a size bigger than the other & also slightly wider. Her bigger foot measurement is a 5G which means her shoes now cost more, not that it matters because my initial thought was "oh no! she will now be able to steal my shoes". The assistant asked what styles she liked & then off she went to collect some shoes for her to try on. She came back with a few boxes of different styles & also slightly different sizes. After trying them all on she went for a brogue black leather shoe.

The assistant asked her to walk up and down in each pair to see if they fitted correctly & to be honest I couldn't tell the difference but she told us which pair fitted correctly. Next up was my other daughters turn & she also has 1 foot 1/2 a size bigger than the other (I wonder how many ill fitted shoes I have bought in the past). Because of the size difference & the type of shoe that she had chosen, one of the shoes had to be fitted with a inner sole to slightly pad out the shoe so that shoe did not rub her foot. Again she walked up and down the store until the assistant was happy that the shoes fitted correctly. Madison went for a very cute pair of dolly black leather shoes that have lovely bow detailing.

I found the whole service to be excellent, we did not have to wait around and the assistant was Pleasant, knowledgeable & made sure we left with shoes that fitted perfectly. The store had a huge range of shoes in stock so I am sure you would find something to suit each persons style. The shoes range in prices from £25 up to £40 which I think is a fair price as the quality is excellent & the fitting of the shoe is perfect (even if you so have different size feet). I would highly recommend Clarks to family and friends.

We received a voucher for the purpose of this review however it did not cover the full amount of both pairs of shoes. All opinions are my own.

City of Friends Giveaway

City of Friends - the pre-school TV show on Channel 5's milkshake! are celebrating their first birthday with a special themed 'Rescue Week' on milkshake! starting next Monday! (20th August) Each day next week one of our lovable new recruits from the City of Friends Emergency services - Max the Monkey (a trainee police officer); Elphie Elephant (a trainee fire-fighter); and Ted the Teddy Bear (a trainee paramedic) as well as Jumpi the Hare - will each join all the ‘milkshake!’ presenters in the studio to help read viewers birthday cards, show pictures and join in with lots of singing and dancing. And each City of Friends episode broadcast next week will feature the new recruits saving the day and working as team.

You may know that City of Friends is uniquely based on the adventures of real-life Norway state police officer Carl Christian Hamre. Hamre created bedtime stories for his young son based on his day job as a police officer and within 4 years, established CreaCon Group, one of Norway’s largest independent children’s entertainment production companies:)

‘City of Friends’ is an animated 52 x 10 minute series following the adventures of three new recruits to the Emergency Services and friends – Max, Ted and Elphie – who, together, help to solve various problems and mishaps in and around their city. The series has been capturing the hearts of children and parents alike with its gentle messages around friendship, tolerance and the importance of working together.

On Monday, Max will be in the studio to introduce ‘Max’s Mountain Walk’. Whilst walking up Friends Mountain, Max causes the ice to crack when he practices his yodelling and finds himself stuck in a crevice. When Mia also gets stuck in the ice, Martin summons the rescue crew on his walkie-talkie.

In the studio on Tuesday, Ted recalls the time when ‘Ted Forgets the Bandages’. No one notices when Timba runs off with a packet of bandages. So later, when Abby is called out to tend Jumpi, Martin thinks Ted has forgotten them! When Abby has a puncture en route, Ted finds the bandages in Petey's van! However did they get there?

Jumpi is in the studio on Wednesday. He and his new metal detector came to the rescue in ‘Gone Fishin’’. Martin and Mia are out on the lake fishing with their dad when Bonnie the boat becomes entangled in an old net. Hayley the helicopter is called out but her key is missing. Can Jumpi find it?

On Thursday, Elphie joins the Milkshake! presenters for ‘Bobby’s Sand Castle’. Max has a spare key cut for Hayley because she is always losing it. But then he loses the new one at the beach! Try as he might, he can't find it. So Elphie is called and sucks up lots of water in her trunk. Will she be able to find the key?

Max is back in the ‘Milkshake!’ studio on Friday for ‘Helmets are Cool’. Martin and Mia have been recruited to deliver lunch to the three trainees, who are on a training exercise on how to handle a fire. Mia refuses to wear a helmet, but when a real accident happens that Max has to deal with, she soon learns the error of her ways.

You can watch City of Friends weekdays on Channel 5’s Milkshake at 6.20am, Saturdays at 6.15am and Sundays at 6.25am. Or visit www.cityoffriends.com, www.facebook.com/cityoffriendstv

Zoflora 3in1 disinfectant Review

Zoflora are celebrating 90 years of home hygiene & have introduced 2 new fragrances this year Summer bouquet & Country Garden . Zoflora have sent me the Country Garden concentrated disinfectant to review & it has a really pleasant smell. The bottle is 56ml but it will go a long was because it is concentrated so I can mix 1 part disinfectant to 40 part water making the bottle last longer, the whole bottle will make 2.2litres of full strength disinfectant.
It can be used on; floors, baths, tiles, taps, worktops, drains, sinks, dishcloths, toilets, potties & hard surfaces, it can also be used in pet areas so long as your pet is kept away from the area until it has dried.

I like the fresh floral smell & the freshness lasts all day, it eliminated odours & kills 99.9% of bacteria and viruses brilliant when you have small children touching everything in your home. I also like that it does not leave a residue. It is easy to use & mix and can be used for a vast range of cleaning so you don't need to store a load of different bottles under the kitchen sink. I would recommend Zoflora to family and friends.

The Good Housekeeping Institute (GHI) has awarded Zoflora their well-regarded approved logo on Zoflora Concentrated Disinfectant for 2012 so to celebrate they are giving my readers 34% off a subscription to Good Housekeeping magazine!

I was sent a bottle of Zoflora for the purpose of the review only

Tots100 Book Club-Tell me a story before I go to bed

As part of the Summer reading challenge with Tots100 Book Club I have chosen one of our favourite children's books, I love reading Tell me a story before I go to bed to our son because it is a lovely story about a father taking his Daughter Anna-Sophia up the wooden hill to tell her a story & tuck her into bed.

I think I love it so much because my mum would call the stairs the wooden hill when I was a child, throughout the book Anna-Sophia is trying to find out what the wooden hill could possibly be! Her Daddy giving her clues along the way making her think of her favourite places to visit; the park, a picnic & climbing the trees, all are things that a child will do over the summer so I particularly like to read this when we have had fun summer days because I can then discuss what we have done that day with him. The first time we read it my son had fun trying to guess what the wooden hill was using the clue that Anna-Sophia's Daddy gives.

The Author is Sam McBratney & it is Illustrated by Sebastien Braun
It has 32 pages

Olympic mascot Wenlock soft toy & pen review

The Olympics are in full swing & I have to admit I am obsessed, I am loving how well we are doing & the kids are enjoying it too. If you have been watching I am sure you have seen Wenlock one of the Mascots.

Wenlock gets his name from Much Wenlock in Shropshire, it is a small town that I have passed through often & it is considered by many to be the birth place of the modern Olympics.

Wenlock represents interesting features that reflect the Olympics & London

The "W" light reflects London taxis.

The three spikes on Wenlock’s head represent
the podium where athletes will collect their medals.

Wenlock’s one eye is actually a video camera
so that it can record everything that it sees.

The bracelets are friendship bands in the
colours of the five Olympic rings.

Wenlock is 30cm plush toy from Golden Bear Toys, it has a rrp of £19.99 but can be bought for just £9.99 at the minute. I was tempted to keep it as a keep sake because I know I will not see the Olympics back in London but after my son saw it he wanted it & has since taken Wenlock everywhere with him.

The Wenlock pen features 8 different colours perfect for the kids to get creative all with one pen, Wenlock sits on top of the pen which is Depth: 2cm, Height:15.5cm, width 2cm. It is suitable for ages 3+. Its rrp is £5.99 & can be bought for just £2.99 at the minute.

I think they are perfect to help children to take an interest in the Olympics & remember the time the Olympics was held in London.

I was sent the Wenlock plush toy & pen for the purpose of the review only.

Family day out swimming

We took the kids to Rhyl Sun centre for a day in the water swimming, the weather has been rather wet the past few weeks so a good old beach day was out of the question so we thought we would beat the rain and go swimming. For those that have never been it is full of slides, swimming pools & a surf pool, the complex has seen better days(it is peak season though) but I never saw one over flowing bin & the seating area was kept clean throughout the day. We spent around 5 1/2 hours there & had loads of fun.
I usually want to get out of the pool after 1/2 because I used to feel really cold but I bought a neoprene zip up top from Konfidence & I can honestly say it helps to keep me warm!.

Tristan thought it was hilarious chasing us round the pool shouting "a shark is coming to get you"

The kids all had a fun filled day, Thomas enjoyed most of it which means all the pictures I took of him ended up blurred, he wasn't keen on the over head rain storm & waves that would come on for about 2 minutes each time throughout the day but other than that he loved splashing around in the water & braving the smaller slides. Tristan would normally hate any water going over his head or even getting splashed, we gave him some goggles & he will happily dunk his head under the water & doesn't mind splashing either now. Since Tristan was happy to be splashed I took him in the surf pool I asked him if he wanted his own board or if he wanted to share, he replied with "I am a bog boy now so I can do by myself" well that was me told & when did my little boy grow up?. We had so much fun surfing around on the body boards, I would guide him into the shallows then I would let go of him, because he was so light he surfed right on top of the waves like a skimming stone across a lake, he would come to a halt at the shore, jump up with the biggest smile on his face shouting "again".

After a spot of surfing myself & the eldest girls took to the slides, Chelsea braved the 260ft Black thunder which was pitched black, you could not see a thing until you came out at the end, Madison & I took the sensible option & grabbed an inflatable ring to soar down the 300ft Buzz slide at least we didn't get off with sore rears from the joins on the slide. I knew Chelsea would call me a chicken if I didn't go on Black thunder so up the blue plastic stairs we climbed just to be thrown into total darkness, I went 1st because I wanted to see their faces when they emerged, It was daunting not knowing where I was going but before I knew it I was at the end of the slide with a good wedgy (why do slides always do that). Madison came flying out, her body shaped like a star fish & laughing! she is the brave one of us all, I heard Chelsea before I saw her she must of screamed the whole way down but thankfully it was a happy scream and not a petrified scream! We regrouped for one last swim in the big pool where I was informed that Rhian took a dive into the baby pool whilst trying to walk around in the water, my mother in law pulled her up by the nearest limb, her leg which Rhian responded with a dirty look shot in her direction & then a shocked look of what the hell happened then! I highly recommend buying your older children brightly coloured swimming caps, we got the girls bright yellow ones, sure they looked like bananas but they was easy to spot in the pool. After a full day of swimming we finished the day off with hotdogs & doughnuts, a great end to a fun filled day.

Project 366 5th August

I stopped taking part in the project 366 because it all got too much & I have since missed taking part as I love photography, I have decided I am going to pick it back up but I will post when ever I can so here is my post for 5th August 2012, it is a double headed Lilly that I came across whilst trying to get my back garden is some sort of order, I have relocated it to the front garden because the back garden is just going to be for the kids & the front will be for me to make all pretty. I hope it survives because they are so pretty.

My cheeky boy

A few days ago my mother in law was sitting with Tristan when she said

"Monday's child is fair of face
Tuesday's child is full of grace,
Wednesday's child is full of woe,
Thursday's child has far to go,
Friday's child is ........"
she paused to think what Fridays child was when Tristan said
"Friday's child sleeps at Nanna's"

We all laughed so much I honestly don't know where he gets his funniness from

On a Friday he goes off to sleep at his Nanna's so of course
Fridays child does indeed go to sleep at Nanna's
I always thought it was
Friday's child is loving and giving.
